Hero
I’ve started chatting with this very cool dude who works at a store in the Vietnamese neighborhood (conveniently located on my way to work.) The other day he got in a few copies of the Hero dvd, the hugely-popular-in-Asia Jet Li movie that was supposed to come out here, but thanks to Miramax editing it and continually pushing back the release, hasn’t done so. I was going to buy it, but noticed that the box said it was Region 3, which I thought meant it wouldn’t work on American players. So this dude offers to loan me the dvd so I can test it out, and then if it works and I like the movie, I can buy it, and if it doesn’t work, I can bring it back.. Naturally, I accepted, the dvd works, the movie rules, and now I own it.
And Miramax still sucks.
Urbana
A couple of weekends ago we made it to the juggling festival in Champaign Urbana…a small, but still nice little fest. We did well in the games, winning both the seven and eight club passing endurance competitions. I came in third in the quarters juggling this time.
My friends Jae Jin and Chad both visited last week. I had fun heading back through the various touristy and hip parts of town. They can be nice, once in a while.
The movie Ringu is scary as hell, by the way.. (..Sadako….)
Cradle 2 the Cucina
On Sunday night we caught a late showing of Cradle 2 the Grave, the new Jet Li/DMX movie. It was pretty good..or at least, I enjoyed it because Jet Li was in it. Mark Dacascos, as the villain, didn’t get to do much of anything cool until the final fight scene.. I’m still waiting for Jet to get a really good role in Hollywood. If Miramax ever bothers to actually release Hero here, maybe that’ll happen. Sigh.
Friday and Saturday nights we juggled at Mia Cucina, an Italian restaurant throwing a Carnivale celebration. We were a big hit. The front half of the restaurant is dominated by a large bar, and on Saturday night we ended up juggling on the bar. (When we first arrived Saturday the manager came up to us, “I have this GREAT idea for when things get crazy busy tonight…!”) It went well, everyone went crazy, and we got free Italian food.
Yesterday was my first day of actual work. I finished my training last week. I’m working in a home, with people with mental illness..mostly making sure house related things go smoothly, or at least get done.
