Crunch Party
Last night we performed at a holiday party for employees of the Crunch gym.. The party was in a club called Buzz..a very juggling-unfriendly place, between the low ceilings, expensive lights/decorations, dim lighting, and super loud music. The guy in charge said he wanted us to “freak people out.” We decided it was too dark for knife juggling, something he wanted. He had also seen pictures on Harper’s website of fire breathing, and wanted that. Harper has been interested in quitting, or perhaps cutting back on the fire breathing for health reasons, some obvious and some more subtle, so he didn’t bring fire equipment. Eventually, because we were having such a rough time performing/mingling/’freaking people out’ in general, he tried breathing fire using some sort of 150 proof alcohol for fuel, and lighting his finger on fire for the torch. (Something the bartender demonstrated.) His first attempt, his finger went out too soon, so he just spat alcohol, and a drop landed in my eye. That stuff really burns. Kinda ruined my mood for a while.
One guy there does promotions for Crunch, and talked to us about doing some stuff.. But he talked like I’d imagine agents talk, all praise and promises.. The promotions he’s arranging are in San Francisco, so he was talking about flying us out, getting us hotel rooms, etc…the ‘rock star life,’ as he put it. Heh.
Soon we go to get our memberships.
