Six Flags Mardi Gras
Our five days of juggling at Six Flags have ended, so now I can relax.. We performed in the Orleans section of the park, for Mardi Gras, in a wandering/street performing style from 1:00 until 9:00 PM each day. Our outfits were pretty flamboyant, and this time I was the ’straight’ man, wearing a purple button-front shirt, with sequined bowtie and cummerbund, along with black cowboy hat and pants. Brian’s outfit involved bright camouflage, and a vaguely He-Man-esque harness. On our first day there we discovered they wanted us to perform in two parades each day, at 1:00 and 5:00. We were very relaxed about our performances, experimenting with new ideas and styles, and we now have a killer family club routine. Some people recognized me from downtown street performing, and several families recognized us as the Jugglers of Death, including one who claimed to have been waiting this entire time for a picture with us. Brian and I have an excellent rapport when juggling together..and more than once we heard comments during our shows like “they’re talking with their eyes!”
JPM Entertainment was also there, the company who provided all the Fright Fest acts except for us.. They had four jesters, five when the head of the company joined them. Three of the jesters go to Illinois State University, and are part of a circus there. We wanted to juggle with them sometimes, but mister JPM forbade it after seeing us all pass together on the first day. In that and in other ways, he failed to make a good impression on us. In a side note, the jesters apparently spent much of their time trying to figure out if Brian and I were in fact a gay couple…and finally asked us about it at dinner after the final night of Mardi Gras. We may well visit their circus at some point in the not-too-distant future…
